The St. Mary’s Cathedral Sydney is an eye catcher from whatever angle you look at it. Located right in the Central Business District, the church emboldens the look of Gothic architecture.
It plays a major role for the nationwide church as it is home to Archbishop of Sydney and the Mother of the Diocese of Australia. The grand design and style make the St. Mary’s Cathedral Sydney impossible to ignore. It is not just a piece of architecture, the St. Mary’s Cathedral conducts mass and is very active even in present day Sydney, Australia.
The St. Mary’s Cathedral was constructed using Sydney’s sand dressed stone. The front of the piers goes to heights of 74 meters long. Like many churches built in the Gothic style, its grandiose architecture is breathtaking.
I found it surprising is that the church pays homage to all Australians who fell during war time.
As is most typical with medieval time churches the St. Mary’s Cathedral boasts of the pipe organ which is one of the oldest music instruments in the church.
As earlier mentioned, the St. Mary’s Cathedral Sydney is stunning, even a photo from the back on a sunset looks spectacular.

Entry to the Cathedral is absolutely free!! Just remember to be respectful especially when mass is ongoing. Best times to visit is during the week days, morning hours or late evening.
The St. Mary’s Cathedral is totally worth a visit and its ideal location makes it easy for your adventures. Definitely make it a stop as you head to the Sydney Opera House, or the Sydney Botanic Garden that are roughly 1 kilometer away. You could also diversify your adventure to see Koala Bears and Kangaroos at the Taronga Zoo in Sydney!
